A Message from the Principal:

Hello and Happy Spring to all the great families of
Davis
Elementary!
It is hard to believe that we only have two months
left before summer break! Before we can look forward to that
vacation, we all, parents and teachers alike, need to support and
encourage our students during the upcoming testing period. I
often hear the complaint that the students are “tested to death.”
Over the years, it does seem that we have added more and more
tests. Our district is in a consortium with other districts who
would like to replace the CRT testing that is done every year with
the NWEA test that is given three times a year.
However, this year we have to give both tests. The NWEA test
is an important tool that our teachers need to plan their
instruction. It lets them know how much the students have
grown over a given length of time. With that knowledge, they can
give students who aren’t making sufficient growth extra time and
help. It also helps teachers to make decisions about their
instruction. So, even though testing is sometimes thought of as a
bad thing, particularly if there is too much, it is necessary in the
educational process to help us make the best educational
decisions for your students.
Here are some suggestions that you as parents can do to help
your students during this testing season:
1. Make sure your child gets to school on time every day.
Excessive absenteeism during this time could cause
incomplete or inaccurate testing results.
2. Make sure your child gets plenty of sleep. Being well
rested helps with concentration.
3. Make sure your child eats a good breakfast before coming
to school.
Join with us in encouraging your children to do their best on
all the tests that they take. We will be giving them pep talks
every day about the importance of showing what they truly know.
As always, thanks for all you do as the parents of our
students. It is a pleasure to serve in a school with so much
parental support.
